- adidas for Great Britain’s Olympic Team
- adidas for australia’s Olympic Team – lightest and fastest yet
For the first time ever adidas has collaborated with a fashion designer to create Great Britain’s Olympic Team Uniform.
Despite the supposedly controversial decision to remove the red from the flag, leaving it mostly blue; feedback from the athletes has been overwhelmingly positive.
Stella McCartney was asked by adidas to design the performance kit, podium suit and village wear, a task she found “daunting” as noted in a diary she kept on the experience.
“It was a very nationalistic moment for me, knowing I’d also have to deliver to a wider audience. For the athletes, I had to deliver on a technical level but I hope that the nation likes what I have done.”
The 26 different outfits took over two and half years to finish, using the union jack – minus the red – as the focal point.
“It’s been incredible, I’m really proud.”
Working alongside adidas’ leading technical experts, as well as the athletes themselves, McCartney’s designs are technologically advanced [tech sheet] to meet the demands of athletes and also incredibly stylish.
